This recursive structure was a stroke of narrative genius. By sending Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) back to 1955, the film forces the audience to view the events of the first movie from a different perspective. We see the "Enchantment Under the Sea" dance not just through Marty’s eyes, but from the perspective of characters hiding in the shadows, trying to avoid their past selves.
